AFTER SCHOOL CARE

Dan is an excellent teacher. We’ve sent both our kids (one boy and one girl) to Bourelle’s for many years and the confidence they’ve gained is remarkable, as well as the independence and self discipline! We highly recommend Bourelle’s.

After School Pickup Service

Our passenger vans pick up from numerous schools in central Wilmington and dropping off students at Bourelle Martial Arts. Upon drop off, students will sign in using their Bourelle Martial Arts ID cards then placing their bags and coats in their personal cubbies before taking their homework and study materials to our study room.

We will be picking up from the following schools:

  • Mary C Williams Elementary
  • Holly Tree Elementary School
  • Cape Fear Center for Inquiry (CFCI)
  • Roland Grise Middle School
  • Myrtle Middle School

Snacks / Homework

Our rule is that all students must have their homework done before any other activities are allowed. So this is the first thing we do as the students arrive, along with snacks. We offer a variety of snacks from veggie straws, pretzels and goldfish to occasional fruit and veggies.

Playtime

Students have a few different options during play time. These options are earned through our rewards and punishment system. Some will have a time out and can only read or study during this time. Some will be allowed to play the board and puzzle games, while others are allowed to run around and play in the main room with padded toys and mats.

Clean up / responsibilities

At 4:15pm we call for clean up. Students must immediately clean up all toys/games/equipment and accomplish their responsibilities listed on the board. Each student is assigned to a team leader (see star student section) and their group is in charge of at least one area to clean up at the studio. Once their area is clean, then all student will grab their uniforms and sit quietly until a team leader tells them they can get dressed out in the changing rooms. Once they are dressed out, team leaders will tell students where to sit before class starts.

Sit and Breathe

Once a student is dressed out, they are to be seated in their line up spot, cross their legs, straighten their back, close their eyes and work on a breathing pattern we have taught them to prep them for class.

Class

Our first class begins at 4:30pm and ends at 5:15pm. The backbone to what we teach the youth students is our Taekwondo program. However, we sprinkle in many other techniques from other programs and styles to give our students a well-rounded martial arts and self-defense program. Our Taekwondo program is geared towards self-defense, physical/mental self-control, as well as bully prevention, self-awareness, conflict resolution, personal responsibility and self-improvement.

After our first class, we take a short break before starting an extended class at about 5:20pm to 6pm. Many parents begin picking up students at this point, so this class is less teaching and more practice and additional material.

Registration and Enrollment Fees

  • $65 (includes everything your child needs for the program such as the uniform, belt and mouthpiece)
  • Tuition per week: $90/week
  • 3 or less days per week: $70/week (we do not provide pick-up service for 3 or less day pricing option)
  • Half days when offered for teacher work days: Additional $15 for the day
  • Full days when offered (8am – 6pm): Additional $30 for the day
