WHY TAEKWONDO?

P

Why do we teach Taekwondo to the Youth students rather than Hapkido or another style?

There are a few different versions of Taekwondo out there. Some are geared more towards sports. Some are geared more towards flash and athletic ability, and then there is what we do, self-defense and self-improvement.

While I have considerably training in numerous martial arts styles and offer other classes at my studio in the evening, when it comes to youth, there is nothing better than Taekwondo in my opinion.

Not only does it provide self-defense techniques, it also teaches a bit of history (relatively new history at that) as well as teaching the Tenets of Taekwondo and Student Oath, which are excellent tenets to live one’s life by (such as Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control and Indomitable spirit).

Taekwondo also teaching physical attributes essential for life such as Balance, Strength, Flexibility, Self-Control, and Self-Awareness, just to list a few.

These attributes set the student up to learn any style of martial arts much easier. As the students progress, I can then more easily insert Hapkido, Judo, Jujutsu, weapons and other styles and techniques without as big of a learning curve than if they jumped straight into one of those other arts. Simply put, Taekwondo is the foundation in which I develop youth students into outstanding adults.
